Marriage License Requirements

Marriage license fee: $70.00 (which includes certified copy)

(We accept cash or debit or credit card)

 

The premarital physical is no longer required. Both parties must be 18 years or older. Both parties MUST present the following:

*Driver’s license (valid not expired) or State-issued I.D. Card (valid not

expired) or Passport (valid not expired) or Military I.D. (valid not expired)

*Certified copy of birth certificate (if you were not born in Robeson County)

*Social Security Card or 1 of the following: W2, paystub, or tax return (with

complete name and full social security number)

Applicants who are not eligible for a Social Security number may obtain marriage license by signing an affidavit attesting to this fact. The affidavit is available in the Register of Deeds office.

If you are 16 years old and under the age of 18 please contact the Register of Deed for more information to obtain marriage license.

Divorced applicants must provide the month and year of their last divorce. If the divorce was finalized within the last 6 months the applicant must provide an original or certified copy of the divorce decree. There is no waiting period between the finalized divorce an applying for the marriage license.

The license are valid for 60 days from date of issuance in the state of NC. The license must be returned to the county of issuance within 10 days after the marriage, or you will be subject to a $200 fine

Marriage license are issued between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm.

If you plan to be married same day by the magistrate at the courthouse, you must

be in the Register of Deeds office by 3:00pm to apply for license.
