Cancellation Methods
Three Cancellation Methods
1. The Trustee or Substitute Trustee may submit a "Notice of Satisfaction". The "Notice of Satisfaction" must be accompanied by the original or copy of the Deed of Trust.
2. The owner or holder of the note may sign and acknowledge a "Certificate of Satisfaction". The certificate must be accompanied by the note (or "Affidavit of Lost Note" if the original note is lost) as well as the original or a copy of the Deed of Trust. The original note must be endorsed "Paid and Satisfied" by the owner of the note. If an "Affidavit of Lost Note" is submitted instead, it must be signed by the owner of the note and contain all the information required by G. S. 45-37(a)(6).

There is no fee for recording cancellation documents.
